Question: When is the best time to come fishing for Walleye? Answer: If you're preference is jig fishing, then April and early May is prime time for fast action. Drift fishing with weapons is mid-May through July is thought to be the most productive time of the season.
Question: Is there a place to have my fish cleaned? Answer: Yes, Captain Paul would be more than happy to take your fish directly from the boat to Al Szych Live Bait located directly across the street. The fish will be professionally cleaned while you wait or packaged and stored overnight.
Question: When is the best time to catch a trophy Walleye? Answer: During the Fall the Central Basin offers your best opportunity to catch a true trophy-sized Walleye.
Question: When is the best time for combination trips? Answer: August and September is your best opportunity for combining two species such as bass and perch or walleye and perch for the same price as a single species.
Question: What do I need to bring on my trip? Answer: You will need an Ohio Fishing License, soft-soled shoes, food & drink, rain gear, motion sickness medicine (if required), sun block, camera and a cooler to carry home your catch.
Question: Do I need to bring fishing equipment and if so, what type of rod and reel should I bring? Answer: It's not necessary to bring your own equipment as I will supply you with quality fishing gear, but if you would like to use your own rod and reel a 5 1/2' to 7' medium action rod spooled with fresh 8-10 lb. test line.
Question: What type of line do you recommend? Answer: 8-10 lb. mono line is fine but sometimes for the light-biting walleyes, the new super braids in 10 lb. are far more sensitive.
Question: I've heard so much about a lure called a "Weapon", what exactly is it? Answer: It is just a short casting version of a crawler harness with only one hook.
Question: How far out do you go to fish? Answer: The average is 4-8 miles, but I go wherever necessary for you to catch fish. I do not let miles stop me from going to where you will get your best catch.
Question: How deep of water will we be fishing in? Answer: During the Spring 8-12' and during the summer months we may fish in depths of 24-32'.
Question: What are the limits and size restrictions? Answer: During March and April, there is a limit of 4 walleye per day. On May 1st the limit goes to 6 walleye per day. There is a 15" minimum for walleye. The perch limit is 30 per day and there is no size restriction.
Question: How many fish can I bring home? Answer: There are no possession limits on Lake Erie. If you're fishing for 3 days then the 3-day bag limit can be taken home.
Question: What is the best way to prevent motion sickness? Answer: An over the counter medication such as Dramimine should be taken one hour prior to the boat leaving the dock. Wrist bands or even doctor prescribed patches have proven effective.
Question: What if I've never fished before? Answer: Captain Paul takes the time to teach you the art of walleye fishing from baiting your hook to making your first cast to catching your first fish.
Question: What other types of fish might we catch while Walleye fishing? Answer: Yellow Perch, White Perch, White Bass, Drum, Catfish, Smallmouth Bass and Steelhead.
Question: Are there other amenities available? Answer: For an additional charge, an executive trip can be booked which includes lunches, pop and fish cleaning.
